The Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society incorporated as a Non-Profit Organization in 2016, after District of Sechelt, Town of Gibsons, and Sunshine Coast Regional District funded Sunshine Coast Housing Committee from 2013-2015 from a commitment to address the housing crisis on the Sunshine Coast.

MEET THE directors


Mike Alsop

Mike Alsop joined the Board in 2019 with a long history of board experience as well as involvement in co-op housing. He has served in various roles with Co-operative Housing Federation of BC, Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada, and Rooftops Canada/ABRI International. He also has experience working with BC Housing, BC Non-Profit Housing, and CMHC in policy development around the leaky co-op issue. Mike also worked with Cana Management as a co-ordinator in maintenance and long term planning.

Guy Perry

Guy Perry is a Professional Engineer who graduated from UBC in 1986. Guys has spent his career working in the Pulp and Paper industry, where he worked on many large industrial projects in a variety of roles. He has also served as a Director on the Sunshine Coast Soccer Association and the Technical Section of the Pulp and Paper. Guy joined the Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society in December 2018 out of a desire to apply his technical and project management expertise to the critical issue of affordable housing on the Sunshine Coast.



Kayla Feenstra

Kayla Feenstra joined SCAHS in 2019 with over a decade of experience in social enterprise development and both non-profit and for-profit management. She is currently developing the administrative, business, and marketing systems for the Society as well as writing funding proposals. Kayla currently works in construction on the Sunshine Coast and looks forward to creating long term, affordable housing with innovative designs - she is well known for her work in community development, sustainability and community impact enterprises.



Jesse Janzen

Jesse Janzen worked in the finance industry for fifteen years prior to moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2015. While in Vancouver, Jesse was involved with numerous non-profit organizations in the Downtown Eastside, including helping to start and operate The Vancouver Rent Bank. Jesse has served as Treasurer of SCAHS since 2016 and serves as a Director with Coast Housing Society and the Coast Mountain Bike Trail Association and also spends time volunteering at Arrowhead Clubhouse in Sechelt. 


Ian Dayneswood

Ian Dayneswood is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse who moved with his family to the Sunshine Coast in 2003, and had a long and varied career predominantly in community psychiatry until he retired. He spent several years working as The Housing Coordinator for the Mental Health Services of VCH on The Sunshine Coast, which is when he became passionate about the value of adequate, affordable housing as a basic requisite of health, firstly for the individual and by extension for the community as a whole. Ian joined Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society in 2017 to further support the provision of affordable housing in his community.

Chris Neumeyer

Chris Neumeyer moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2017 and joined SCAHS as a director in 2019. He became an affordable housing advocate after watching friends and family forced out of Vancouver, the Coast and the Province due to rising housing costs. He has volunteered on several political campaigns, focusing on affordable housing. As the manager of a local brewery he’s seen the effects that housing costs can have on people trying to make it on the coast. He spent over ten years working as a writer in Radio and Television, toured as a violinist in a punk band and was involved with several of the Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing’s fundraisers before joining the board. Chris joined as a way to improve the lives of people in the community that so warmly welcomed him and his wife when he moved here; he looks forward to contributing to SCAHS marketing and fundraising initiatives.

Krista Dempster

Krista Dempster was born and raised in beautiful Gibsons BC, and has been on the board since its inception. She is passionate about her real estate career, which she started in 2012, as well as being passionate about the community and spirit of the Sunshine Coast. She’s well versed in the particular quirks of living outside the city in a place where everyone knows your name and is an enthusiastic parent, community volunteer, fitness addict, and dedicated realtor. On the Board, Krista has been instrumental in our fundraising efforts, connecting with our partners and creating awareness for our projects by seeking in-kind donations, writing grants, and organizing fundraisers.

Don LeFaive

Don LeFaive joined the SCAHS board in 2019 and is a self-employed architectural design consultant. Since completing his Bachelor of Architecture degree, Don has worked at architectural firms in Oregon, Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver, providing him with extensive experience in all phases of the architectural process. As an NRCan Certified Energy Advisor, Don is experienced in performing residential energy audits for the LiveSmart BC and Eco-Energy grant programs. Don has also completed a Corporate Communications Post Graduate Certificate. Previously he has volunteered with Gibsons’ Coast Guard Auxiliary Search and Rescue as well as with Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Sechelt.

Wanda Selzer

Wanda Selzer has served on the board since 2016 after working with Coast Mental Health Society for over twenty-two years. She holds a BA and a Post Graduate Diploma in Gerontology. Before buying a home on the Sunshine Coast in 2004, Wanda and her partner lived for twelve years at Pacific Heights Co-op in Vancouver, where they also served on the board of directors and various committees. Through living in co-operative housing and working in the mental health industry, Wanda developed a commitment to advocating for development of mixed income housing and creating inclusive communities while understanding that safe, secure housing improves the general health of people facing the stress of poverty.

We would like to also acknowledge and thank Sarah Noon-Ward of Coast Housing Society for her services in attending our Board meetings and keeping our Minutes.
