The Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society incorporated as a Non-Profit Organization in 2016, after District of Sechelt, Town of Gibsons, and Sunshine Coast Regional District funded Sunshine Coast Housing Committee from 2013-2015 from a commitment to address the housing crisis on the Sunshine Coast.

KIM DARWIN - president

Although not born in Sechelt, Kim describes herself as a “local”, having lived on the Coast for over 50 years. She is mom to 3 adult children. Prior to starting her present career as an independent mortgage broker, Kim spent 16 years as a legal assistant, specializing in property, corporate and wills and estate law. She has completed Property Management, Real Estate Salesperson and Sub-Mortgage Broker programs through UBC Sauder School of Business. In addition to her work on the SCAHS Board, she is a Board Director with the Salish Sea Regenerative Farm Society "who are reclamating soil to grow healthy food for Sechelt Hospital". Kim’s passion is to work toward solving difficult problems and to make a positive difference in her community. “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” –Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Wendy Hollis - VICE PRESIDENT

After a quick visit to help a friend in Madeira Park in 2004, Wendy fell in love with the beauty of the Coast and the kindness and friendliness of its residents.  After coming to the Sunshine Coast for 15 years as a year-round visitor, she officially made Pender Harbour her permanent home in 2021.   Wendy is very passionate about giving where she lives, with a keen interest in helping others thrive in their lives.   A critical part of that is having a safe and comfortable home - she has seen how this is a struggle for many here. She is looking forward to supporting her Sunshine Coast community in helping address the ongoing affordable housing challenges on the coast and helping residents thrive here.

WANDA SELZER - Secretary

Wanda came to SCAHS with a strong commitment to finding solutions toward affordable housing on the Sunshine Coast. She has 25 years of experience working in various positions in Community Mental Health – mostly providing supported housing in Vancouver. Wanda also lived for 12 years in Cooperative Housing in Vancouver’s west end. There, she served on many committees and the Co-op’s board of directors. This environment cemented her desire to create diverse inclusive communities that offer safe, secure and affordable housing. Wanda has a BA in Psychology from UBC and a Post Graduate Diploma in Gerontology from SFU. Wanda joined the Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society in 2016.

Melissa enyedy

Melissa grew up in Roberts Creek and having moved away after high school decided to move back in 2010 to get back to a slower pace of living. She currently runs her own Wellness business specializing in Restful Living practices. Prior to making her career switch, Melissa worked for 10 years with the Sunshine Coast Credit Union, primarily in Administration and Management. 

Having watched the dramatic change in housing on the Sunshine Coast and experiencing the many challenges we now face regarding affordable housing, Melissa is excited and passionate about contributing to solution-based actions and moving this important conversation forward. 

Mike Alsop

Mike Alsop joined the Board in 2019 with a long history of board experience as well as involvement in co-op housing. He has served in various roles with Co-operative Housing Federation of BC, Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada, and Rooftops Canada/ABRI International. He also has experience working with BC Housing, BC Non-Profit Housing, and CMHC in policy development around the leaky co-op issue. Mike also worked with Cana Management as a coordinator in maintenance and long term planning. He served as President of SCAHS from 2018-2022.

Colin Stansfield

Colin Stansfield is the Executive Director of the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Organization (SCREDO). A recognized leader in British Columbia’s growing social-economy, Stansfield has worked with notable organizations including RADIUS at Simon Fraser University, Ecotrust Canada, Potluck Café, PURPPL, and the BC Partners for Social Impact. Most recently he served as Executive Director for the Gibsons Community Building Society, overseeing the launch and development of Gibsons Public Market and the Nicholas Sonntag Marine Education Centre. Colin has an International Relations degree from the University of British Columbia, and an MBA from Simon Fraser University’s Segal Graduate School of Business where he studied social innovation and applied ethics and was awarded the A. John Ellis Graduate Scholarship. Colin lives in Gibsons Landing with his wife and two young daughters.

Ken King

For the past 45 years, Ken has been intimately involved with the construction and public infrastructure development in British Columbia and Alberta. Professionally trained and qualified as a Quantity Surveyor, Ken also has two diplomas in Urban Land Economics from the University of British Columbia (UBC), one in Appraisal and one in Real Estate Management. With this background, Ken has lectured at Vancouver Community College, Langara College, Douglas College, the University of Alberta and UBC. He has also presented programs featuring mortgage underwriting skills, consulting skills, public speaking and management techniques to such institutions as Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Business Development Bank of Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada and the Certified General Accountants of British Columbia to name just a few. Ken moved to the Sunshine Coast with his wife and joined the Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Board so that his years of experience can help building housing in his new community.

Andy Maycock

Landed in the lower mainland 35 years ago with a plan to attend UBC and train as a Geophysicist. While attending UBC and exploring the province, Andy and his wife Clare fell in love with the Sunshine Coast. Three children and a career that took his family around the world later, Andy and Clare moved back to the Sunshine Coast. Although Andy trained and worked as a Geophysicist, his later years saw him in technical, project and development management. The wealth juxtaposition Andy experienced while overseas helped crystallize his belief in the right to affordable housing and his desire to support that right. Andy lives and operates a Geophysical company in Gibsons,  holds B.Sc in Geophysics from UBC, an MBA from Middlesex University (London, UK) and is a Registered Professional Geophysicist (P.Geoph) with APEGA. 


Karys Foley

Karys is a registered social worker with over 30 years experience working with vulnerable children, families and individuals. She has held title of family counsellor; youth worker; educational assistant; key worker and home share provider. Over the 17 years she worked in the non-profit sector she learned a bit about making resources stretch and thinking creatively about getting needs met. Karys has also worked for government agencies such as CLBC and MCFD. Her current role as a family support navigator with SD46 puts her in touch with families who are struggling with the rapid changes happening in housing and food security. In addition, she has a private practice as a behavior coach who provides training and education on complex neurodevelopmental conditions.  All of this experience makes Karys a strong and capable advocate and support resource. She is passionate about making room for everyone to have their needs met. She is honoured to have grown up and live on the sacred ancestral lands and waters of the Shishalh Nation where she raised her family and grows her own food.

Chris Neumeyer - General Manager

Chris Neumeyer moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2017 and joined SCAHS as a board member in 2019 after volunteering as an organizer for our fundraising events. He became involved in community activism at a young age, especially housing issues, after watching friends and families forced out of their communities due to rising housing costs. He also volunteered for several political campaigns and organized dozens of charity events and concerts. He has had a varied career before working at SCHAS. Working in radio for over a decade, touring as a violinist, construction and managing a local brewery among other things.
